This is it. This is the film i’ve been looking for this year. Beneath its simplicity, it’s buried with memories about your childhood. Those memories contained of various emotions. It can be sad, joy, fear, disgust or anger. When we have to pick out the most memorable event happened in our life, it is undoubtedly comprises of the above emotions. Why i say it was simple? The story began with a baby named ‘Riley’ and how the emotions took charge in controlling her. The emotions played a major role in reflecting Riley’s perspective in her daily life. How she hated broccoli is driven by ‘Disgust’ emotion. How she enjoyed playing with her friends is influenced by ‘Joy’ emotion. She felt disappointed when her hockey team didn’t make it is the work of ‘Sad’ emotion. It was mind blowing to see how animation film depicted emotion that existed within us but in different angle. We sense this emotions but we never felt curious about it.
I wont review much except to say this animation film is definitely not for kids. It is not intended for kids because kids could’nt understand it. Adult got it because we all have our own childhood. We passed the phase (and sometimes, wishing we could return to it) . This film contained an idea on how human minds operating in a colorful way. I was touched by one scene when certain memories got deleted by memory workers when Riley didn’t remember about it anymore. It was sad. It is rational considering we couldnt remember what happened the moment we opened our eyes as baby until we reached 5-7 years old. Yes, we can remember a bit of memories here and there but not as a whole event. I am sure that most of us cant remember our imaginary friend because of this. When Riley deleted ‘Bing Bong’ from her mind, that was the scene i cried the most. It was unbearable to watch. ‘Bing Bong’ still clung to a promise he made to Riley that they are going to the moon together. I was inconsolable. This is too deep. How could you let ‘Bing Bong’ die?
Overall, it was total emotional ride for me. I gave a perfect score. Big hero 6 may make me laugh and enjoy the film but this set a new par for animation film. Inside out is unforgettable film, I kid you not.
Watching ‘Earth to Echo’ really reminds me of my childhood, my best friends and a life that I wish I could have but couldn’t. It’s sad but that’s life. I just have to deal with it. Although rotten tomatoes and IMDB gave this movie a lower rating, I would say ‘watch it and you know how wrong they are’. The story revolves around Tuck, Alex and Munch. They are inseparable friends (kind of loser in school but they didn’t really care because they got each other). Their friendship about to be tested when their family had been asked to move away from their home due to the massive highway construction in the Mulberry Woods. All the residents has been asked to vacate the house and moved away. The story started with Tuck showing off his footage of the things he did with his friends. Some of it has been uploaded in the youtube while others he kept it secretly. The story proceeded when he showed how he spent his last night together with Munch and Alex before they move to another place. It was like a paranormal except it’s about three kids who about to do the dumbest thing in their life but it turned out to be the best night of their life. Perhaps, it maybe will be one of the unforgettable memories for the rest of their life.
Munch, Tuck & Alex
The whole ‘adventure’ thing started when Alex discovered a weird symptom in his phone. It didn’t happen to him only, almost every single house that lived really close with Alex’s house experiencing the same problem. Alex invited Munch and Tuck to investigate this together. Due to the construction, most of the residents were convinced that’s the main cause for the whole disturbance of signal in the phone. Apparently, Munch didn’t think the same way. He discovered that the ‘barfing-like’ image is resembled some kind of map. Being a nerd kid among the three of them, he found that the disturbance caused by some echo in the map shown in the phone. They planned the whole night out to find out what’s in the map. All of them lied to their parents telling that they are going to sleepover at the each other house. It’s going to cause some confusion to the parents at the end of the story but let me get back to it later. They went there by bicycle and only to find some rectangle-shaped metal lying on the field.
I mean, come on!! WHO doesnt want to help this adorable alien? :3
It was hilarious seeing Munch was so cold feet in the middle of the night. He was so scared of during the travel to the field in the middle of the night. Seeing the metal junk and felt it was worthless, they decided to take off until that particular metal junk making some noise. They were so scared for a few seconds until they discovered that it was friendly ‘alien’ who just wanted some help to build a spaceship so it can get back to where it belong. Tuck was having a time of his life because he might get a highest rating via youtube if he decided to upload the video later. Munch is freaking out saying they should live as soon as possible while alex intrigued to help the alien. They argued and went with their heart by taking the alien back with them. It was hilarious and exhilarating in the same time. What happened to them is utterly adventurous journey in assisting their alien friend and showing completely disobedience towards authority. Secret government authority insisted them to return what they found in the site which is the alien but they refused particularly Alex. Alex is a adopted child and being abandoned by his own parents is something he could not forget. That’s why among three of them, Alex is more concerned with echo (the alien name) compared to others.
This is the story that will touch your feelings to the core. The story of how friendship will never ends regardless of how far you lived from your friends. Yes, you may feel lonely, incomplete and alone but remember, your best friends will feel the same way you do. As for the ending, whether ‘Echo’ can go back to it’s home and whether they stayed together until the end, it is all up to you. Put this in your watch list, guys!
As 24 years-old girl who looked forward to watch this film more than anything in this world, It is considered weird enough. Among my best friends, only 1 shared my passion for animation. The rest of them, i had to drag them to cinema to accompany me to watch this kind of film or i have to go alone (which i hate to do it). This love for animation is not necessarily come from my inner self . I like animation in the past but not really enthusiastic about it. If it is there, i will watch it, if it is not, nevermind, there’s plenty other stuff to watch. It is one of my older brothers (whom i called Angah) that really did a great job in dragging me into his animation maniac world. Now, in the year of 2014, I am considered as one of his influencees. From not so famous animation film like Open season or Paranorman to the independent animation film, i’ve seen and loved it all because of him.
If you think How To Train Your Dragon 2 (2014) will not surpass How To Train Your Dragon (2010), Think Again because to me they just did. As Hiccup successfully altered the way people (especially those who lived in his village called Berk) perception about dragon and how to handle them, the adventure did not just stop there. Hiccup continually learned about dragons through his adorable companion, Toothless. Hiccup once have been perceived as totally weirdo and not a Viking at all is now has been looked up by his fellow friends as a ‘Dragon Master’. While all of the villagers living harmoniously with a dragons under his father reign, Hiccup always disappeared with Toothless to venture new places until he find the end of the world. Little did he know, he will stumble with a group of people ( who called themselves as a dragon kidnapper). One of the dragon kidnappers, Eret told tale about Drago, the vicious and wicked dragon hunter. Eret also told Hiccup that the order to catch dragons came from Drago.
Hiccup and Toothless managed to escape from Eret and returned to Berk immediately. He met his father and try to enquire about Drago. When Hiccup mentioned ‘Drago’, His father immediately asked the whole villagers to hide and they should be preparing in the upcoming war. Hiccup try to reason with his father that war is not solution and he should let Hiccup discuss with Drago. As much as his father believe hiccup’s unconventional way, he did not believe Drago at all. He met him last times and almost got killed instantly. However, Hiccup could not take No as an answer and ran away with toothless right away before Berk managed to close its gate. In that Journey, Hiccup found his mother back. Her mother who was told by everybody that she got killed by a dragon is still alive. He has a mixed feeling about his mother until he found that his mother has been hiding in the isolated dragons habitat and spent her time learning about them for years. He may not be his ‘true’ son for his father but he is definitely his mother’s son. His admiration and Curiosity about dragon came from his own mother.
How to train your dragon 2 received almost similar rating (from Rotten Tomatoes, Metacritic and IMDB) with its predecessor film and has been praised by the film critics as ‘how the film sequel should be made’. [Spoiler] I felt sad when his father died though and how Hiccup blamed toothless for his death. He knew toothless under the trance of Dragon King to do so but he just cant help it. I shed my tears in both scenes. I dont want to but it’s just so heartbreaking. Anyway those sad scenes is quickly replaced by thrilling action scene where toothless challenged the dragon king and does not want to follow his order any more. That was one of the interesting moments in the film. How i felt after watched this film? It is worth my money. If you already watch How to train your dragon, dont wait anymore to watch it’s sequel. Go Now or else, you have to wait for 3 months for Dvdrip version in torrent.
In case you guys wondering are there any short films or series of How to Train your Dragon released by Dream works? Yup, there are 2 of tv series titled ‘Riders of Berk’ and ‘Defenders of Berk’ consisted of 40 episodes and 3 shorts film which are Legends of Boneknapper (2010), Book of Dragons (2011) and Gift of the Night Fury (2011). All of them has been released in the years of 2011- 2013 as a continuous stories of Hiccup and His friends living in Berk with the dragons.
As usual, the sequel would be somewhat disappointing and less entertaining than its previous film. I must say that i still enjoy Rio 2 nevertheless but it cannot beat Rio somehow. The story takes place in Amazon whereby Blu and Jewel together with their 3 kids and their friends venture there to find the location of their species. Of course, The original villainy bird in Rio is still maintained in the story. Nigel returned with other animal (a venomous frog) as his sidekick for his plan to kill blu. He wanted blue dead because blu had caused him an injury of losing ability to fly. Rio might cast an idea that it is a story about a blue macaw bird going to an adventure but for me, it is more than that. It teaches you that the extinction of species happened. It happened to blu when he discovered that he might be the last species left in Rio until he met jewel, the female kind of his species. During the first film, they put an animal trafficking issue as the highlight of the film. In Rio 2, they returned with deforestation and illegal logging that occurred in Amazon.
We as an adult may able to watch 2 hours documentary about extinction of the species or illegal logging that happened somewhere in country without getting dozed off. However, for kids its totally a different story. They need to know about this issue without getting bored or sleepy about it. I thinks its brilliant that Rio incorporating the element of conservation and preservation of nature in the animation. This kind of film is a must film for parents to watch with their children. Of course, it should not be boring and more colorful in animation film but as long as the message get crossed, it was worth it. After blu and jewel settling down as the rehabilitation bird park, they got 3 kids on their own. Carla is the eldest one. she is the music lover. Bia is the second one and she’s read everything and known for her intelligence. Last but not least, Tiago is the only son and a troublemaker in the family. They are settling down in the park whereby it’s near to Rio De Janeiro city and Blu can live as humanly as possible though he’s a bird. Jewel tried to teach their kids to experience their life wildly but they are too comfortable under blu’s influence of living like a domesticated pet.
When Blu’s former owner, Linda and her husband, Tulio discovered that maybe their ‘Blu and Jewel’ is not the only species of blue macaw bird left, Jewel is excited and happy. She wanted to go to Amazon with her family to find other birds there. Blu hated the idea but conceded with Jewel as his friend, Rafael always said to him ‘Happy wife, Happy life’. Their childrens are somewhat having a mixed feeling about this. Bia wanted to go but she read Amazon is having so many creatures that could get you killed. Tiago is thrilled to have an adventure as living in a bird park, he always being told no to whatever he wanted to do. Carla could not care less because of the carnival. Upon hearing that Nico and Pedro will be joining them to scout the talent there in Amazon, Carla changed her mind. They went to amazon right away and even lost a few times because blu insisted on using the GPS provided by Linda. When they arrived at amazon, they are being ambushed by some birds and been brought into an isolated location in the forest. Jewel met her father for the first time after they were separated in a tragedy occurred in Amazon. She also met her old friend named Beto and her aunt, Mimi there.
Blu felt left out and try to compete with Beto but he knew he’s not wild enough. His father in law also not impressed by blu’s domesticated behavior and try to train him to be more wild bird. The struggle between blu’s innerself began right away. There are also scene of Linda and Tulio being captured by illegal loggers as they tried to stop prevent the forest from getting destroyed. Of course, Nico and Pedro held a hilarious parts the most in the films. My favorite scene would be the audition they initiated in Amazon to scout talent for the carnival. Overall, if you watched Rio, you knew that this film slightly failed to maintain what they originally had, but Rio 2 still deserved some applause and its sufficiently entertaining for kids and adult around my age (who still loves animation films).
Can I just say that frozen probably one of the best film that Walt Disney ever released? The idea was brilliant, the plot was quite fresh and the characters in the film were oh-so-amazing. The songs in frozen (oh my fucking god, it was incredible), I really enjoyed the whole sound track of the film. I watched it last night with one of my best friends, Ika and until now I still I can’t get over the film. I was so excited and even mentioned ‘that I am so reviewing frozen’ to Ika.I am a big fan of animation films and sometimes I can get bias in my post but frozen will not left you disappointed at all (that i am 100 percent sure of). At first, I had the slight idea that frozen might be okay, it may get boring in some parts, but overall it is enjoyable. That’s what I thought of frozen initially. Fortunately, I was wrong. I was completely blown away. I’ll tell you why I really love it.
It is a pretty brand new kind story by Disney. what more peculiar in this film is the centralization of female characters with different personal traits. Elsa, she is blessed with icy power and she didn’t turn evil like some Disney characters did. She suffered isolation because she can’t control her power and she was overwhelmed of fear that it will cause hurt to anyone especially her sister. Anna, she’s nothing like Elsa. She’s bothersome and a bright girl in her own way. Hans is what I felt surprised the most; he is nothing like prince charming. He’s so similar with Anna in some way that it is indeed creepy. I thought they will end up together and happily married. When Hans suddenly turned to be the evil prince, and he’s not really in love with Anna as what he did before were part of her acting, I gasp in horror. *I am just being a little dramatic. Olaf, the snowman is probably one of the best things that ever happened in Frozen. He is funny and naïve in his own way. He loves sun and summer without having any idea that those two things will melt him right away as he is a snow man. The act of true love is not always must be a kiss from a prince like the ordinary tale we used to read back then. Anna is set free from her own curse when she tried to save Elsa though it turned her into ice frozen sculpture. The act of true love that they show in this film is the love that connects between 2 sisters.
Princess Elsa is the one who possess the power of turning everything into ice and frozen. She is the elder daughter of King and Queen Arendelle. She often played snow with her little sister Princess Anna, given at that time she is blessed with cryokinetic power to invite winter anytime her want. She, later, accidentally injured her sister and was forced to not play with her anymore. She ignored her sister pleading and isolating herself in her room. Princess Elsa then later became the queen of arendelle. Since Elsa had been warned not to display her power, she often scared to mix and associate with people, worrying that her power might show and she can’t control it. On the coronation event, Anna somehow triggers Elsa’s anger and she released her power in front of everybody. Due to this, Elsa ran away and tries to isolate herself so she will not injure anyone.
I am not so fond of Princess Anna. For me, she’s annoying and irritating. However, she loves her sister, Princess Elsa more than anything else. She didn’t lose her faith in her sister so quickly and even went to find her in the middle cold harsh winter to convince her to return to arendelle. Anna is what you can called the little bubbly-bimbo girl. She want to get married to Hans, the prince she met at the Elsa’s coronation even she just met him only one day. She didn’t had the slightest idea of who Hans is, yet was convinced that he was the true love of hers. She was enraged by her sister’s decision for not giving her consent on the idea of her getting married. This was the event that led Elsa unleashes her power in front of arendelle people. Feeling guilty and responsible by it, Anna set the journey to find her sister accompanied by mountain man, Kristoff and his reindeer, Sven.
Kristoff is a mountain man that Anna met when she was on her way to search her sister in the North Mountain. Kristoff is what I called a very realistic and sensible man. When Anna told him that she wanted to marry the prince she met only one day, he was befuddled. He told Anna it was impossible to get to know a person in one day. Their friendship growing day by day and Kristoff didn’t realize he already fell in love with her.
Hans, the Southern Island Prince met Anna at the coronation. They went head over heels toward each other and Hans proposed to Anna right away. When Elsa ran away and Anna went to find her, Anna asked Hans to take care of arendelle people when she was gone. Hans did what she asked and waited Anna to return only to betray her love. Hans’s initial plan was to marry Anna and kill Elsa later so that he could be a king. However, he had to revise the plan of taking over the kingdom when Elsa’s hidden power has been discovered.
Olaf is the snowman made by Elsa to Anna when they were young. Anna did not have any memory of Olaf but Elsa had. When Elsa accidentally unleashes her power, everything she created became alive and one of them is Olaf. Olaf then joined Anna’s journey to find Elsa and become Anna’s best friend.
My favorite moments:
1) When they (Anna & Kristoff) met Olaf
2) Olaf’s part when he sings that he would one day could enjoy the sun’s warmth. this is freaking hilarious.
3) When Elsa ran away and created her own palace. She even created her own costume which is the most gorgeous dress i ever seen. I was absolutely mesmerized by Elsa’s new appearance.
4) When Anna met Hans and she was convinced that he was the one. I almost thought that he was the one for her.
My Favorite songs (i played all of them on repeat):
1) Do you want to build a snowman? (i cant find the HD version, but overall the video is pretty watchable)
2) Let it go. (there are 2 versions of it, one of it sang by Idina Menzel and the other one by Demi Lovato).
