Breaking Bad

By: The Gorgeous Palah Chingu

I can describe Breaking Bad in 3 sentences: Breaking-Bad

Dare to dream. Dare to accomplish. Dare to face consequences.

My Rating: 4.5/5

I am a fool for not watching this TV series earlier. I am skeptical at first because people made a huge deal how great breaking bad was as TV drama. After finished watching all 5 seasons, i get it. I get why people will frowned their faces if you tell them you are not watching it or even risked being killed if you had a balls to say you never even heard of this series. I saw in instagram about people craze and obsess over breaking bad. I didnt do any research on the drama, i just search torrent and download the whole season of breaking bad from it (from the  look of the poster, I thought ‘breaking bad’ is about how prisoner escaped the prison or some sort like that).  I kept it in my hard disk for more than 3 months.

Anyway after a while, i decided to try and watched 8 episodes in the first season. There is only one word that fit the 1st season: MIND-FUCKING-BLOWING! How can a chemistry teacher with a mundane life, gets a gut to be the drug lord in new mexico? what triggered him to do so? if you are in his shoes would you do the same or you just conceded and accept the life as it is?

Inoperable Bryan Cranston as Walter White/Heisenberg

In the minute of Walter White being informed by his doctor that he has a lung cancer, he fell into the state of emostional numbness. He’s been a good husband and father to his family. He dont smoke, he lives happily with his wife and his son (a cerebral palsy patient), He worked 2 jobs to provide for his family and he even expecting another baby in a few months with his wife. Was God playing with his bad luck or he just that UNLUCKY. Nobody knew. That was a life changing moment as the decent Walter White you knew may never returned after all. He involves himself in drug cartel, kills several people who crossed his path and even manipulates Jesse for his own agenda.

f6f70eb34c58cdcba2cc470e6e798185 Aaron Paul as Jesse Pinkman

Jesse Pinkman, An ex student of Mr. Walter White who later become his sidekick in the Meth production. Jesse was approached by Mr. White right after he caught him successfully escaped from the DEA (the Drug Enforcement Administration). He decided not to report about Jesse and wanted Jesse to work with him to produce the highest quality of Meth in the area they lived in, New Mexico. Jesse was dumbfounded as Mr white (AKA his chemistry teacher) who’s he known for all his life are not criminal and even if he turned one, he will be caught by police right away. However, after Mr White explained, he’s doing this only for money (so that after he died, his family has money to go on with their life) , he agreed to help him.

Little did they knew, one meth production led to murders and other crimes that they have to commit in order to survive.

Breaking-Bad-Skyler-Buyout-425x299 Anna Gun as Skyler White

i know that some of breaking bad fans may hated her or find her present appalling after what she did to Walter White. We cant blamed her 100 percent. She’s a human being. She bound to make mistake, thats for sure. Some may find her a cold hearted bitch, some may find her a helpless wife who tried to help her husband. i find her a little bit of both. yeah, She’s a bitch, she fucked his boss but can you blame her? she barely knew her husband anymore. The man she married , she failed to trust him any longer. There is no truth in her marriage. His husband lied to her in every single thing. Maybe in her logic, two-timed husband is way more acceptable than having a drug lord as a husband.

Lewis Jacobs/ Still Photographer, 2008 RJ Mitte As Walter Junior/ Flynn

Flynn may not played a big role in breaking bad. For somebody who has a cerebral palsy , Flynn or RJ mitte could be their biggest inspiration. He portrayed as Flynn who has a cerebral palsy in the family but he, in real life also one of the cerebral palsy patient. He looked up to his father and idolized Walter White as a hero. He always blamed his mother for not being understanding to his father and felt that his mother sometime could be a ‘bitch’ to his father. However, when the whole truth is being discovered, he was traumatized and couldnt admitted that the person whom he called ‘Dad’ was his father anymore.

BB-S5-Dean-Norris-Interview-325 Dean Norris as Hank Schrader

Hank schrader is the brother in law for skylar and walter white. Since he worked for DEA, He always consulted with walter white about the meth production. He even brought walter to one of his drug operation. When he worked for ‘Heisenberg’ case, he told walter every lead that he has without knowing that Heisenberg  and Walter White was the same person. When he finally found out who Heisenberg was, it was already too late.

Mariepurple Betsy Brandt as Marie Schrader

Marie is skyler’s sister in this tv series. Marie and skyler relationship definitely not like a normal sibling relationship. They are close but not that close. Sure, they lived in the same city but they keep their distance. They try so hard to convince each other that they both living fine with their husband and nothing to worry about. When skyler found out marie had a bad habit to steal from the store, she try to confront her but marie totally ignored it. When Marie faced a marriage problem with hank due to drug incident, Marie didnt told skyler any of it. She even putting a happy face when she met her. If both of them opened up to each other, they may have lower the chance of their spouse being killed.

WHY I LOVE IT:

It was intense. It was fast-pacing drama but with slow-dramatic beat that drives you crazy. Whenever you see Walter and Jessie faced the danger, you wanted it to be over so fast but they sure as hell turned out otherwise instead. There is a sequence how one decision committed by Jessie/Walter might affected other peoples. It took me 2 months to finish the whole series. This is because i cant watch the whole season back to back with breaking bad. It was too much for me. I usually watched one episode of breaking bad and then i will do other things next. This drama was too overwhelming with desperation and helplessness feeling. Every single character in this series has their own misery. No wonder Anthony Hopkin even wrote a letter to Bryan Cranston stating that he loved the show and how impressed he was when Bryan Cranston managed to stay true to his character.

I dont want to give any more spoiler. My advice is if you decided to watch it, dont expect it will give you a happy ending. You can judge from the story line itself. Trust me, it is worth your time. I have my doubt in the first place, but i am glad to set aside my doubt and give it a chance. Last but not least, i will share some of my favorite moments in this tv series.

Breaking-Bad-514-Walt-Skyler Walter White: “You clearly don’t know who you’re talking to, so let me clue you in. I am not in danger, Skyler. I am the danger. A guy opens his door and gets shot, and you think that of me? No! I am the one who knocks!”

breaking-bad_featured-image1-anna-gun-as-skyler-white-l-bryan-cranston-as-walter-white-r Skyler: All I can do is wait. That’s it. That’s the only good option. Hold on, bide my time, and wait.” “For what?” Walt asks. Skyler: “For the cancer to come back.

say-my-name__span Walter White: You all know exactly who I am. Say my name.  Declan: Do what? I don’t…I don’t have a damn clue who you are.  Walter White: Yeah you do. I’m the cook. I’m the man who killed Gus Fring.  Declan: Bullshit Cartel got Fring.  Walter White: You sure?  Walter White: That’s right. Now say my name.  Declan: You’re Heisenberg. Walter White: You’re goddamn right. ”

jesse-and-walt-from-face-off Walter White: “I watched Jane die. I was there. And I watched her die. I watched her overdose and choke to death. I could have saved her. But I didn’t.”

breaking-bad-felina-walter-jesse-gun Walter White: You want this. Jesse Pinkman: Nothing happens until I hear you say it.” “I want this.” Walter White: I want this. Jesse Pinkman: Then do it yourself. ”
